Foluso Fakorede

CEO and owner, Cardiovascular Solutions of Central Mississippi and Fusion Vascular

Black Americans face a disproportionately high risk of amputations. Mississippi Delta cardiologist Foluso Fakorede has been working to protect patients from unnecessarily losing their limbs with an approach that includes outreach to local communities and proactively screening for and treating peripheral artery disease (PAD), a condition associated with diabetes that restricts blood flow to the legs. Part of Fakorede’s mission is also to draw greater national attention to PAD. “As a Black doctor, I felt like I had to support this marginalized community and become the face of justice for them,” he told the American Heart Association upon accepting an award from the group last year.
