Neera Tanden

White House domestic policy advisor

Neera Tanden has been a fixture in three White House administrations, having served as an advisor for presidents Clinton and Obama as well as Biden. And since her appointment as the White House’s domestic policy advisor in May, it’s been clear that she has the president’s ear on health policy. In recent months, she’s been a public representative of new, bold initiatives including the administration’s plan to force insurers to comply with requirements that they cover mental health and addiction care as well as Biden’s plans to lower drug prices through Medicare negotiation and out-of-pocket caps. The administration also signaled it may make use of its “march-in rights” to bypass companies’ patent rights if they rely on federally funded research. “It is a really big change,” she told Fortune in December. “And we’re the first administration to do this.”
