Moderna is a biopharmaceutical company based in Cambridge, Mass. Most known for its Covid-19 vaccine, the firm has more than 40 treatment or vaccine candidates in various stages of research or development aimed for use against influenza, Zika, HIV and Epstein–Barr.

Moderna specializes in RNA therapeutics, primarily mRNA vaccines. The name comes from a molecule called messenger RNA (mRNA) that carries instructions for proteins to generate an immune response.
